For my Generic Fashion blog over at
www.madeafashionblog.blogspot.com I am looking at office people as a subculture. I have to find Designers who create for my subculture, in this scenario office people. The designers I have found relevant for this particular task are Jil Sander, Michael Kors and Gianfranco Ferre.
I have managed to find a business collection that Jil Sander released. The collection is very clean, fitted and constructive. With plenty of panels that in correspond with one another, showing the beautiful iconic hourglass shape of a women. The over lapping panels signifies the style of this fitted collection, this separates the basic fitted dresses we are prone to see on the high street or on a regular basis, and highlights the fact its designer. It really shows. The choice of colour is vibrant dark tones they are quite mundane due to the lack of expression it shows, however they do work very well with the design of the outfit. Usually the colours are black and white that offices people wear as well as Office outfits are known to be tight fitted? This maybe the only way a formal woman is accepted. Would floating chiffon fabric be worn in an office? I think this is unlikely due to the fact it is very unpractical. As it is inappropriate to wear behind a desk, mobility is a key to getting around the office and this would really challenge the working environment as well as the consumer, or maybe just looking beautiful will do.

My second designer I am going to look at is Gianfranco Ferre, I am safe to say this designer, out of the three, definitely has the most style within his office related collections. I like the first outfit because it goes against what I said slightly due to the fact that office workers need practical clothing for the environment they work in, more so the style is coming out of the outfit jumping on the viewers face, grabbing immediate attention. These office outfits have a silhouette which is more developed than the basic figure of a woman. This is due to the forms taking a different approach to meeting up but still maintaining a place on the body. The outfits are very stylish being rich in black and white they make a statement due to these bright colours and the shape they are in. The formal presents is astonishingly recognised which is very important within this subculture. I think Ferre captures more than the basic office wear, taking on a whole new meaning to working in style.

The third and final designer I am looking at which I think relates to my subculture is Michael Kors. Kors displays his style differently to Ferre, he intends to show a lot more skin in his business style clothing. Kors, like Jil Sander uses fitted garments throughout, this allows the hourglass figure to show. Bright colours is something Kors does well. He is not afraid to show colours within his office attire, this is a different approach compared to the other two designers that intend to use darker shades. I think this is a good approach to office wear to use bright colours is inventive, it gives a different vibe and feel to the clothing. Different colours reflect a different moods whilst being looked at, so to wear these around an office will maybe reflect a more energetic workplace.
